It's the year 2007 #pastfuturetechnology.
Looking at the W53H I must say that there isn't much to the phone at a first glance, and I couldn't identify the brand until I opened the lid, so to speak.
Now, having said all that, this phone is just 14.2mm thin which puts it in direct competition with the NTT Docomo NEC N905iμ.
It uses an 2-axis rotating Organic EL (a type of OLED) screen, supports the FeliCa NFC mobile wallet, comes with a 1Seg TV tune , microSD expansion support and all sorts of pre-installed KDDI au WIN apps and services that are too numerous to list out.
What's annoying is that this handset, like many other KDDI au devices, comes in Japanese only. This makes it very difficult for me to snoop through it for savoury bits of info. No good! Learn Japanese, you say? ? ? ? Moving right along then.
The 2Mpx camera isn't particularly impressive, but then again, I don't believe THAT is the unique selling point of the handset. From what I could gather, it was heavily promoted by Japanese celebrities and that makes me think it's a more lifestyle & glamour orientated device.
Unfortunately, the W53H is also not a reliable travel companion – there's no global roaming and the phone is CDMA-only.
