It's the year 2004 #pastfuturetechnology.
Although J-Phone launched its 3G network in 2002, commercially it wouldn't really take off until 2004 after Vodafone had taken over. The V801SH is the first Sharp handset on its network to feature 3G (WCDMA) connectivity. Following in the footsteps of the 2G PDC J-53SH and its 2G GSM sibling, the GX30, this phone comes with a 1Mpx camera, SD Card support and tri-band GSM global roaming (rare for Japanese phones at the time).
The phone marks the start of a long and successful run of 3G devices on the Vodafone network, which would become Softbank in 2006.
As for the camera, see the sample photos of the Gaud? Bull and Hong Kong. They are on par with the GX30 and SH505i.
