It's the year 2001 #pastfuturetechnology.
Just 10 months earlier on J-Phone's network, the Sharp J-SH04 kicked off the integrated digital camera race. And Japan's local manufacturers have been quick to adopt and adapt.
Toshiba's sleek J-T06 is a 1500Mhz PDC terminal of the candy bar type which is a dying form factor. It's 65k STN LCD is colourful but pale and packs a 120 x 160px resolution.
Its main feature, the 0.1Mpx camera, is now the standard configuration for many feature phones, but the Toshiba stands out by supplying an external flash that attaches to the 2.5mm audio port. Again, this is part of the package, and looking at the size of this thing it's clear that the technology is still too new to be fully integrated.
To use the flash, simply activate it and take a picture at the same time by utilising the side button (not the main centre button). And oh it's flashy. Please also listen to the CUTE count-down. It took me a while to figure it out - there's no English-language-anything available, again. Funny that, given that the two manuals included in the box contain more information than that of my previous car.
Since there's no way for me to get the images off the phone unfortunately (no infrared yet, and the infra is dead), the screengrabs will have to suffice.
When I received the three J-Phone models in their original box and together with their accessories, I couldn't believe my eyes and was praising God to be able to hold such wonderful pieces of history. The condition of the J-T06 is flawless, as if I had just ordered it from J-Phone myself.
