It's the year 2010 #pastfuturetechnology.
The more I get to experience Casio's mobile handsets, the more in awe I am of them.
Some of you North Americans might actually be familiar with these devices, since many similar types featured on Sprint and Verizon's CDMA networks over the last decade.
Casio's G'z One Type X or simply CAY03 is a CDMA 1X WIN handset on KDDI au's network. When I first held this beast in my hand, I didn't quite know what to make of it – it's massive! It's rugged! The phone is solid and feels absolutely beautifully. Have a look how it stacks up to my iPhone 12 Pro Max and iPhone 4.
Under the hood we have an incredible 13Mpx shooter, NFC Mobile Wallet support (Osaifu / Suica), CDMA Global Passport roaming (roams here in Hong Kong!), 1Seg TV support, a 3.2" IPS LCD, microSDHC support, water and dust proofing, thermometer, barometer, ets.
This phone is made for the great outdoors. Not just that, it is also equipped with emergency location features and disaster notification features and an earthquake early warning alert.
In terms of firmware it runs the typical KDDI au custom KCP firmware which is pretty consistent across phones for this network.
Back in the day I don't think I would have gone for this type of device, but I can really see the appeal now. It's made for adventures and durability without sacrificing on quality. Check out the camera samples, they are on par with the CA003 if not better.
