It's the year 2002 #pastfuturetechnology. The GX1 and GX10 launch together on separate networks, the GX1 being an O2 exclusive whilst the GX10 launching exclusively on Vodafone. Both phones are making it big by bringing Japanese technology to Europe. Though GSM technology isn't Sharp's strong suit, many GX models follow their Japanese PDC cousins in design and functionality and hence bring well established technology to its overseas markets (even if delayed).
In rapid succession, Sharp would be improving (GX10i) and iterating through its technology over the next few years, launching many more GX models with outstanding quality features.
In the early years of camera phones, network operators banked on customers using MMS (Multimedia Messaging) to share photos with friends and family, and so there was no easy way to download the images to a computer.
The GX10i would come with a handset manager to allow exchange of images and ringtones, and remove the dependency on MMS.
