It's the year 2006 #pastfuturetechnology.
Fujitsu phones have proven themselves to be feature rich, of exceptional build quality and highly secure. The F902iS is the last iS series device. Although I am yet to find exactly what the "S" stands for (Style, Supplementary, Successor, etc.), the S series usually form the "alternative" version of the original, released 3 months after the original. The series also come with an additional 800Mhz W-CDMA band for improved coverage. It could be considered the equivalent of Nokia & Sharp's "improved" series, which is annotated with a lowercase "i" (N93i, GX10i, GX30i, etc.).
As for this specific device, it is one of Fujitsu's thinnest available handsets with a design which mimics a music player. The MiniSD expansion allows for up to 512MB of additional data and music, which could make up a significant library of songs if they are compressed in the AAC++ format (1-2Mb per song, at 64kbps quality).
In other areas, the handset features a 3.2Mpx Autofocus camera, Osaifu-Keitai (NFC wallet & payments) and a biometric fingerprint scanner, which is typical for Fujitsu phones. Fujitsu has always offered an insane amount of settings for its cameras, which let you control things like ISO, sharpness, colour profiles/filters, resolution, panorama stitching, timers, timestamps, etc.
One thing I hardly ever point out is the fact that many Japanese mobile phones come with stereo speakers. Whilst this sounds great on paper – pun intended – the reality is that Japanese handset makers are extremely socially responsible and therefore limit the volume to almost imperceivable levels. Trying to play a song through said speakers requires a completely quiet environment, which makes them somewhat redundant. Not a party trick after all.
Check out the sample images. The night mode does rather well for a 2006 device, wouldn't you agree?
