It's the year 2009 #pastfuturetechnology.
Not long ago we covered SoftBank's 830CA, a mid-range 3G Mobile Wallet by Casio, sporting super cute animations and a decent feature set for the everyday Japanese.
Today, we're diving into yet another device made by Casio that 99.9% of the general population likely have never heard of – the CA003. Exclusive to Japan's KDDI au CDMA network, the CA003 is a month short of being the world's first 12Mpx mobile phone – that title goes to Sony Ericsson's Satio Idou.
This CDMA2000 1X WIN device is high-end in every way – the solid build quality and glass finish, incredible 12.2Mpx resolution camera and feature rich OS make this mobile truly luxurious, even for today's 2020 standards.
Apart from its amazing looks, the handset features a contrast rich organic EL (or OLED) display at WVGA resolution and a generous 3.3" screen size, 1Seg TV receiver, microSDHC support up to 16GB, NFC Mobile Wallet (Osaifu / Suica), GSM Global Passport and LISMO Music support, amongst many more services I could add to the list.
Taking a look at the 12Mpx shooter, this device would have had to have been impressive 11 years ago, but even compared to my iPhone 12 Pro Max it doesn't deserve to be scoffed at. It is obvious that the level of resolved detail, dynamic range and colour saturation in the iPhone beat that of the CA003. That we can attribute to iPhone's powerful HDR processing and advanced hardware. But with a little bit of touching up in Lightroom, the images of the CA003 can yield stunning results.
There are ELEVEN whole years between these two devices one must remember. Check out the comparison images and become your own judges.
Overall, this handset is impressive to say the least, and one of my clear favourites in my collection. I'll be looking at a more in-depth photo shootout in the near future, so stay tuned!
